It was established in 1976 and lies in the central Himalayan region of Nepal. The park occupies an area of 1710 km2 and bufferzone 420 km2. The park’s elevation is 792 meter Bhotekoshi to 7,425 meter the peaks of Langtang Lirung the highest point in the Langtang group. The main attraction of this park is Langtang range in the north and several lakes in the south. High – altitude jungles with diverse vegetation and wildlife scenic lakes, glaciers and Himalaya peaks combine to make Langtang National Park an attractive destination for visitors. The Langtang valley is renowned for its holy lake Gosainknda & Tamang culture . Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit the lake area every year especially during the Janai Purnima festival which falls in the August.
The park with its diverse altitudinal range supports life zone from upper tropical forest to the permanent snow.
Langtang National Park is home of
347 bird species
46 species of mammals has been recorded including the globally threatened Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Himalayn Thar, Himalayan Black Bear, Asiatic Black Bear, Assam mascaue, Musk Deer pika
1000 species of plant including tree climber and shrubs.
11 species of herptofauna, 10 species of spider and 70 species of butterfly species have been recorded.
Birds to see at Langtang National Park
Satyr Tragopan, Himalayan Monal, Yellow – rumped Honeyguide, Wood Snipe, Ibisbill, Cinerous Vulture, Himalayan Vulture, Lammergeier, Yellow – breasted Bunting, Nepal Wren Babbler, Hoary – throated Barwing, Grandala, Minivets, Fantails, sunbirds, flycatchers, Tits, Tesia, Warblers, Laughinthrushes, Rosefinchs amongst others.
